Becka & Jay’s Wedding

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

After being postponed for two weeks by  Hurricane Irene with just a few hours to go, Becka & Jay were married during a simple outdoor wedding on Saturday, September 10, 2011 surrounded by family and friends.  The marriage took place at Belle Isle Park in Richmond, Virginia.  Access to the picturesque location is gained by a suspended walkway to the island in the James River.  Friend Becka, Brother-In-Law Ryan and Son Britton also participated in the ceremony.  A reception followed at Becka and Jay’s favorite restaurant, Maggiano’s Little Italy.

How I spent my vacation

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

For our vacation to Jay and Becka’s in Virginia, I was given strict instructions to relax and to not do any work.  I wasn’t suppose to even pick up a screwdriver.  Unfortunately Hurricane Irene decided to make an unwelcomed visit to Hampton Roads.

Several large pine branches hung over Jay and Becks’s house and posed a real threat to snap off and do some roof damage.  So after few hours of effort using my lumberjack skills  under the watchful supervisor of Barb, Becka and one of their elderly neighbors, the branch threat was eliminated.  AND without even picking up a screwdriver!

Mediterranean Sky

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

From Sept 1993 to February 1994, I was Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba from my primary duties on the USS Enterprise.  I was there as part of Joint Task Force 160 sent there to manage the Haitian and Cuban migrant crisis.  Berthing and messing shortages grew quickly due to the overwhelming number of military sent to GITMO.  The US government contracted with a couple of cruise ship lines to moor at the piers to provide more places for people to sleep and eat.  For good part of the time, my accommodations were on board the contracted Greek cruise ship called the Mediterranean Sky.

Nor’easter of January 12, 2011

A classic Nor’easter rolled into New England on January 12th dumping between 12 – 16″ of snow.  It was definitely a work from home day.

Jay’s Surprise Visit

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

Jay and his girlfriend, Becka, surprised us with a visit just before Christmas.  And it was truly a surprise.  It was amazing so many people knew but were able to keep the secret (or were lucky enough not to get caught letting the secret slip).

We were delighted to meet Becka in person for the first time and always enjoy time with Jay.

We were disappointed that John Britton could not come up with them.

Even though the visit was only for a few short days and the weather was cold, we did get to show Jay and Becka to a few sights including the potholes and the bridge of (not so blooming) flowers in Shelburne Falls, the new Kringle Candle in Bernardston and a covered bridge in Greenfield.

We are looking forward to Becka, Jay’s and John Britton’s next visit.

Guy’s Visit

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

Our good friend, Guy, was in New England visiting his family over the Christmas 2010 holiday.  He drove up on one of the days to see us and a week or so later, we drove down to see him again.   We went out to eat on both occasions.  It was so great to see him and have a couple of opportunities to spend some time together.  Guy has just finished up his assignment in Green Bay and is on his way to a sabbatical in Texas, then on to another assignment.

Franklin County Fair 2010

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Pictures taken during the Franklin County Fair.  While stopping to watch the racing piglets, Ethan was chosen as the official pig rooter for racer # 4 whose name was “Ham ma Montana”.   Ethan’s pig came in first and Ethan was awarded a blue ribbon.  In one other picture, Ethan tried to wrap his arms around the grand prize wining great pumpkin of the fair.
